Pendus Compound ImprovementsFrom our first visit in March 2000 to our second visit in December 2000, several improvements were made to the church compound area. First, the St Joseph School (an L-shaped structure behind the church and guest house area) was painted. We had sent a 5,000 watt generator on a sea container (and lots of other items too). A 10-foot by 10-foot concrete building was built to house the generator – which could supply power to both the church and guest house areas. Another 12-foot by 24-foot building was built behind the guest house. It was divided into two separate areas – the one on the left for storage (for many things such as the items we had previously sent by sea container to Pendus) and the one on the right as a kitchen for St Joseph School. The concrete block fence was now complete around the entire church-school compound area, replacing the previous cactus fence. There were decorative, painted iron coverings for each window in the guesthouse too. Lastly, two make-shift basketball goals were set up in the grassy area in front of the school. We had sent two rims and bank boards on the sea container.
